M.A.P. at The Tavernacle Social Club

By Steven Fales | July 1, 2010

It’s not the Tabernacle. It’s the Tavernacle. Here’s the press release for my upcoming performance of MORMON AMERICAN PRINCESS later this month. Think of it as a non-traditional Family Home Evening.

Steven Fales’s (the creator of the Off-Broadway hit Confessions of a Mormon Boy) returns to Salt Lake City with his new cabaret confection, MORMON AMERICAN PRINCESS with special musical guest Melissa Pace Tanner at the Tavernacle!

Come laugh and sigh as Fales goes from “princess” to “cowboy” in sixty minutes!
MORMON AMERICAN PRINCESS is a musical exploration of our self-absorbed society using the multi-talented Fales as a microcosm. But with the little help of his new Higher Power (She’s fabulous!) and his friend Melissa Pace Tanner, he’s beginning to see the light as he continues to put Utah on the MAP!

This hilarious and touching cabaret mines Fales colorful life more fully and includes original songs like “The Excommunication Polka”, “Narcissus”, “Cult Rap.” And such standards as “I Don’t Know How To Love Him”, “Fifty Percent”, “Son of a Preacher Man”, “If He Walked Into My Life”, “Never Met A Man I Didn’t Like”, and outrageous medleys and parodies of your favorite Broadway show tunes including Steven’s popular “Mormon Broadway Medley” and his signature song “Mormon American Princess.”

Fales confesses and quips, “God has seen me through excommunication, divorce, prostitution and drugs, now we’re working on narcissism. And it’s not going well.”

Steven Fales has played some of the most prestigious cabaret venues in Manhattan including Joe’s Pub and the Metropolitan Room and across the country. He has toured his award-winning off-Broadway hit Confessions of a Mormon Boy extensively and will be premiering his new solo show Missionary Position at the New York International Fringe Festival this summer. www.mormonboy.com.

Melissa Pace Tanner is one of the premiere Jazz vocalist in Utah and having guested with the Utah Symphony many times. She fronted the Joe Muscolino Band for ten years and sings regularly with the New Deal Swing Band. She has recorded four albums and is an accomplished actress in stage, television, and film. www.melissapacetanner.com.

Steven and Melissa went to high school together in Las Vegas. In their senior year they appeared opposite each other as the leads in the musical The Boy Friend at University of Nevada, Las Vegas. This will be the first time they have performed together since then! They both parents who juggle their careers and family life.

Music directed by Kevin Scott Christensen.
